about

Neahkanie is a mountain of legend on the northern Oregon coast.

lyrics

Here is a poem referencing Neahkanie Mountain:

The Third Day of Spring

Rinsed and wrinkled by
salt and pluvial wind, I drift
with sand ghosts skittering
down the white flats that
yawn
between dunes and tide.

Enveloped in stormy phantoms
I stumble northward
forced to drink deeply from
a jar of gray clouds and fog,
Neahkanie Mountain
looming in the background
spectral and very Japanese.

I have been drunk on this weather before!

Reticent sun
it‘s been a long time
what shadows are holding you?
I expect you soon
to grab me by the throat
and shake out the last
lingering
songs of winter.
